The International Rounds of the Philip C. Jessup CompetitionThe end of May in Washington DC was marked by the 51st International Rounds of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition. In our first year as official sponsor of the White & Case International Rounds, we helped make possible the largest International Rounds in the 51-year history of the Jessup Competition, with 127 teams from 76 countries taking part in the event. Russia was represented by the top 9 teams selected at the Russian National Championships in February 2010.The participation of the Russian teams at the Jessup International Rounds was one of the most successful over the past 9 years. Out of the 127 universities which participated at the International Rounds, the Moscow State University ended up coming 10th, ahead of several strong native speaker competitors from the common law countries. Grirory Vaipan from the Moscow State University team was ranked 27th in the individual oralist results among more than 500 participants. The team from the Russian Academy of Justice wrote the 18th best Memorial, having shown superior legal writing skills. White & Case continued its sponsorship at the national and regional levels, sponsoring competitions in Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Georgia, Poland, Russia, South Africa and the United Kingdom, and the US regional competition in Washington, DC. Our support also enabled Jessup teams from Ethiopia, Lesotho, Nepal and South Africa to attend the International Rounds. Over 150 White & Case lawyers and staff from 20 offices worked on the Jessup throughout the year.
