White & Case's Moscow office has a strong commitment to supporting and improving the community in which we live and work. In 2009 White & Case was selected as a finalist in the US Secretary of State's "Award for Corporate Excellence." The Firm was one of 11 finalists - and the only law firm - for the prestigious award, which recognizes the role US businesses play in advancing good corporate citizenship globally. The finalists were chosen from 42 nominations submitted by American ambassadors around the world. Pro Bono We have an active pro bono practice, with more than 20 lawyers who regularly provide pro bono legal advice. Our lawyers devote substantial time to pro bono matters, aimed particularly at supporting the non-profit sector. In addition, we sometimes provide legal representation to individuals in cases that are particularly compelling or in the broader public interest. Legal Education White & Case supports the development of legal education in Russia. For almost 10 years, White & Case has sponsored and organized the Russian National Championship of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition. We also organize and deliver a lecture series for law students focused on practical skills related to commercial law practice. Volunteerism Many of our employees are active volunteers with charities in and around Moscow. We support a number of charitable initiatives, and encourage a culture of giving within the Firm. Our recent employee volunteer activities include renovating and painting an orphanage in Yaroslavl oblast and providing some holiday cheer to children who study at the Civic Assistance Committee's Center for Adaptation and Education of Refugee Children. Charitable Contributions White & Case supports a number of charity programs that assist vulnerable children, support talented individuals, and make a positive contribution to the community where we work. We support charitable activities initiated by our employees, and we welcome opportunities for our employees to participate in activities that provide a useful service to a disadvantaged group.
